Pregnancy

Bringing a new baby into the world is a joyful time for a family. Caring for Women wants to make sure you have the care you need through every step of your pregnancy, and that your childbirth experience is as warm and wonderful as it can be.

We offer complete pre-natal and post-partum care, including midwifery, physician care, breast feeding support and education programs. We also offer a full range of diagnostics and testing, including ultrasound equipment, with access to 3D and even 4D images of your unborn baby.

At Caring for Women you can choose either an obstetrician or midwife for your care, and when it comes time for your delivery BEFORE MAY 31,2018, you will have access to a full-range of birthing and comfort options at the Lakes Region General Hospital Family Birthplace.

As of May 31, 2018, labor and delivery services will no longer be available at Lakes Region General Hospital, but Caring for Women will continue  to provide the majority of prenatal care and visits locally, including lab tests, ultrasound tests, prenatal education, lactation services, postpartum care and more.  Deliveries will take place at Concord Hospital as we are coordinating labor and delivery services with Concord to ensure there is a seamless transition of care for all our pregnant patients.

Prenatal Care—What You Need to Know

Prenatal care is an important part of a healthy pregnancy. Whether you choose an obstetrician or nurse-midwife, prenatal care is the key to monitoring your health and your baby's health.

Your First Visit

As soon as you think you're pregnant, schedule your first prenatal appointment. You might want to include your spouse or partner in the appointment as well.

Your health care provider will ask many questions; including details about your menstrual cycle, use of contraceptives, past pregnancies, and allergies and/ or other medical conditions.  Bring a list of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you're taking.  Share any family history of congenital abnormalities or genetic diseases.

Your Due Date

Establishing your due date early in pregnancy allows your health care provider to monitor your baby's growth as accurately as possible.

Lab & Screening Tests

Prenatal tests can give you valuable information about your baby's health. Your health care provider may order an ultrasound, blood tests or other screening tests to detect fetal abnormalities.

Your Lifestyle

Your health care provider will discuss the importance of good nutrition, prenatal vitamins, exercise and other lifestyle issues, such as stress and smoking. If you smoke, ask your health care provider for suggestions to help you quit.
